More Than a Meal

The Health-Focused Family Meal Support (HFFMS) program at EIGHTY-SEVEN NEW LIFE, INC. was created to respond to these interconnected challenges. Unlike a traditional food pantry, HFFMS is a high-touch family stabilization initiative that combines targeted food assistance with consistent, dignity-centered support.

Participating households receive an initial food allocation followed by monthly assistance. Through regular well-being check-ins, the program also examines food security, financial pressure, emotional strain, personal agency, and readiness to pursue future goals.

Early findings from the pilot phase show that HFFMS can help reduce food-related stress and ease financial pressure—even when participating families are navigating significant challenges such as housing transitions, childcare instability, or personal loss. Most importantly, the program is designed to ensure that receiving assistance does not diminish a family’s dignity or independence.

HFFMS reflects our belief that meaningful support must go beyond meeting an immediate need. Families deserve to feel respected, heard, and supported as they work toward greater stability.

As we continue evaluating and strengthening the pilot, EIGHTY-SEVEN NEW LIFE is building a model rooted in evidence, accountability, and human connection. With support from donors and community partners, we hope to responsibly expand the program and reach more New York City families.

Because food support should provide more than a meal—it should create room to breathe, recover, and move forward.
